Durham City Run 10k and 5k, 18th July 2018

Wednesday the 18th of July saw the 3rd running of the Durham City Run event. Held in the historic streets of Durham with the finish line outside the cathedral.  The evening saw a 400m Hill sprint, a 5k run and a 10k run take place, with the 10k run using a newly revised route compared to last year.

Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers were in attendance with 12 runners from the club competing in the 10K.  Liam Newbould and Keith Galbraith were running the 5k.

Liam finished the 5k course in 24:12 and 89th position, followed by Keith in a very respectable position of 106th out of 823 runners in 24:48.

First across the line in the 10k was Leigh Owbridge in a very respectable time of 43:39, Leigh getting some of his running mojo back after his exploits at this year’s London Marathon.

Next to across the line for the club in another strong run was Scott Phillips finishing in 44:17

Simon Lawlor was 3rd home in 46:52 having suffered somewhat with the heat at the Ray Harrison 10k he enjoyed the cooler temperatures to record a decent time.

First lady home for the club was Claire Earle in a time of 51:44 showing another strong run from her and enjoying the new course layout.

Neil Harker had a strong run, enjoying the hills that Durham had to offer coming in not far behind Claire in 52:46.  Hot on the heels of Neil was Joanne Scott who was next 52:58, another good run from Joanne.  Next with a steady run was Shaun Sant crossing the line in 53:02.  He was followed closely by Angela Lawlor who finished in a good time of 54:05, getting back to her more consistent times for the distance.  Amy Atkins was next for the club coming in at 54:24. Amy who recently joined the club is showing that the training is starting to pay off with another strong run.

Sam Dixon returning for another go at the Durham 10k returned a time of 57:26, enjoying a beer afterwards to celebrate!  Kim Watson followed not far behind in 57:53. Kim has been doing a lot of long runs recently so the 10k was defiantly a welcome change for her.  Tracey Peek also had a good run clocking a time of 59:17.  She was followed by Christine Bruce who enjoyed the route coming in just over the hour at 1:00:02.  Last but not least was Keith Windross, who again is a new member to the club and improving all the time coming in at 1:03:09.

Definitely one for the calendar next year!
