Race Reports

Sedgefield Serpentine, 12th September 2010

Andrew Minister competed in the Sedgefield Serpentine Trail Race and finished in 6th place out of 123 in a time of 38:52 over the 6.5mile distance.

Tees Pride 10K, 5th September 2010

There were 2,677 finishers in the Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10K race, with Ian Hudspith from Morpeth Harriers winning for the 3rd time in a row in 30:51, on a fine but windy day.

First home for Burn Road was Andy Kelly who finished in 41st place in a time of 36:46.  Although Andy is a vegetarian, he has recently been spotted hunting down buffalo as he has heard it is a good source of iron (hunting is a bit of an exaggeration, he was actually trying to get the attention of a stallholder at the  Marina Farmer’s  Market!)

Mark Calvert recorded another pb with an excellent 40:57, over 2 minutes quicker than his last race over 10km.  Next in was Trevor Sherwood who ran 43:12 and was under the important 7 minutes a mile barrier.

Angela Lawlor’s time of 53:07 was within a second of last year’s time, but she admitted to making it hard for herself by running the first 2km at 7minutes a mile pace, and then finding it hard from 7km to the finish.  Pauline Ranson had a good run to finish in 57:04, and Julie McGrath completed the course in 61:38.

Tholthorpe 10K, 5th September 2010

The Tholthorpe 10K took place for the 15th time in ideal conditions.  This friendly, well organised race uses the quiet country roads around the village and finishes on the green with the duck pond nearby.  Although it is fairly flat, there are a couple of hills up to the 9km mark, followed by a fast finish into the village.

Peter Johnson ran his 2nd race in 4 days and was happy with his time of 45:32 and 79th place out of 270 finishers.  This was his fastest 10K for quite a while!

Autumn Coast Road 5K, 1st September 2010

The final event in the annual series of road races organised by New Marske Harriers took place on a fine Autumn (!) evening on the first day in September. Conditions were excellent, apart from the usual sea breeze. This race takes place on a flat 2 lap course on the promenade around the Stray at Redcar.

Finishing in 6th place for Burn Road was Paul Wilson in a time of 17:38. Tracey Waller recorded a time of 18:21 and was 10th overall and 3rd lady home, this position reflecting the very high quality of the field where 1st lady was Kate Avery from Shildon in 16:30 and 3rd overall.

Stephen Armstrong finished in 72nd position in a pb time of 22:01, followed by Peter Johnson in 22:12 and 76th place.

There were 144 finishers in total.
